Everyone Has a Place in the Music
At Yates, we believe music is one of the clearest ways the Holy Spirit moves among us. It opens our hearts to the presence of Christ and helps us listen for what God is doing in our lives and in the church. We sing and play not to impress but to glorify God.
Music in worship is shared, not performed. It is intentionally eclectic, shaped by the voices, experiences, and traditions of our congregation. We welcome classical and contemporary, gospel and folk, choral and instrumental, because each reflects a part of the story we are telling together. Whether you bring an instrument, a trained voice, or simply a willingness to show up, there is a place for you in the music of this church.
Meet Keith Longmire
Music Ministry Team Leader
Keith Longmire has been part of the Yates community for decades. He brings a deep love for the church, a lifelong commitment to music, and a steady presence that invites others to join in. A longtime music educator in Durham Public Schools, Keith also runs a woodwind repair and resale business and plays with Leon Jordan’s Continentals Big Band Orchestra. His musical experience is wide, but what matters most to him is helping people offer their gifts to God.
Keith leads with patience, humility, and joy. He believes that when we make music together across styles, ages, and skill levels, we reflect something of God’s beauty and welcome. He would love to help you find your place in the music of this church.
